Saruar Alam is a Research Officer at Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiatives (ideSHi). He joined ideSHi in June 2021. He received his BS and MS degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Dhaka in 2018 and 2019 respectively. He completed his MS thesis at Translational Systems Biology Lab, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka under Dr. Sajib Chakraborty on the efficacy of eltrombopag in correcting thrombocytopenia in dengue patients and the feasibility of the establishment of IPF as a reliable biomarker for understanding platelet dynamics. In 2020, he was awarded the Dean’s award for outstanding academic excellence in BS. He also got the BS (Hon’s) result scholarship from the University of Dhaka. During his MS study, he also received a fellowship from the Ministry of Science and Technology.

At ideSHi, he is involved in a number of research projects. He played a pivotal role in the successful completion of the rabies vaccine trial. His current research focuses on the genomics and immunology of SARS-CoV-2.

Saruar Alam is very enthusiastic and optimistic about his field. His interest lies in stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, molecular medicine, drug development, and novel drug delivery. His hobbies include fishing, playing International Bridge (IB), and listening to folk music.  He has a pronounced interest in international politics.
