HPV Awareness Program at Hazrat Shah Ali Girls’ High School, Mirpur-1. Dhaka-1216.

 

Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cause of cancer death among women in Bangladesh. Every year 12,000 women are diagnosed with this disease.

Vaccines against HPV infection can prevent the disease. To continue to raise awareness regarding this burning health issue of women, ideSHi conducted the HPV infection, Vaccination, and Cervical Cancer Awareness Program at Hazrat Shah Ali Girls’ High School, Mirpur-1, Dhaka, on 22nd march, 2023.

The event was chaired by Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukder, Executive Director, Centre for Cancer Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (ccepr,b).

The keynote speaker of the event was ideSHi Lead Dr. Firdausi Qadri, who is also this year’s Independence Award receiver, and 2021 Ramon Magsaysay award-winner, and emeritus scientist of icddr,b.

Dr. Qadri spoke about the disease, the necessity of vaccination, and the cervical cancer burden in our country. Moreover, Dr. Tajul Islam A. Bari, the former Program Manager EPI was a special guest and talked about current HPV vaccination status in Bangladesh. More than 500 participants including students, teachers, and caregivers were present at the event.
