Md Tarikul Islam is currently working as a Research Officer at the Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiatives (ideSHi). He has completed his B.Sc (Honors) in 2014 and MS in 2015 from the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka. He conducted his MS thesis work at ideSHi and the research topic was “Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency in local Population of Dhaka”. He achieved National Science and Technology Fellowship from Bangladesh Government in 2013, Dr Motiur Rahman Sharok scholarship from University of Dhaka, and National Education Board scholarship in Secondary School Certificate. He has research interests in molecular genetics and genomics, especially in inborn error of metabolism, Cell biology, immunology, and Bioinformatics. Tarikul is now working on several research projects including Thalassemia, Hypothyroidism, Hepatitis E Virus, Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficie
ncy, Huntington’s disease, Isovaleric acidemia etc. He wants to continue his research work on genetic disorders and is very keen to contribute to the scientific sector of Bangladesh. He likes outdoor games and plays cricket and football whenever he gets a chance.
